This year my partner and I entered in the Promotional Bulletin Board competition for SkillsUSA. We had to create a board that promotes our school, the Saginaw Career Complex (SCC), but also stays within the theme that was set. The theme this year was “Connecting You To Career Success”, with the theme in mind my partner and I got to work right away. We first started out drawing up thumbnail sketches separately, then after a few days of working on them we got together and discussed what we liked and didn’t like then drew up a final sketch together and went out and took photos. After getting a few photos the next day we started to layout ideas on the computer. After a little over a week we finally had all of our photos and started finalizing the board design. The regional competition came up and we finished getting our board printed and our notebook done. We went there presented and learned so much from the experience, we placed 4th, but the judge said our board placed at 2nd. What we lot on was our notebook, because we didn’t know we had to have a certain notebook and also we didn’t know a couple things that were supposed to be in the notebook. However, a group that competed with us and got 2nd ended up not being able to make it to the state competition so we were able to go. We went to work on our notebook, ordered the binder we needed, fixed everything inside, and made the circles on the board three- dimensional. In the end we placed 8th out of 13 groups, but we learned so much from this whole experience we still felt proud and happy with our board.
