InDesign works with both raster and vector images. In this program I have created many projects, a couple of them being a magazine spread, brochure layout, and note pad layouts. With these designs I had to use a lot of math. For example, when creating the note pads I had to take a 8.5”x11” sheet of paper and make 4 sheets out of this. I did this by making thumbnail sketches and doing the math on a separate sheet of paper. I also learned about a lot of different tools, like how to link text together that are on two separate sheets of paper. I had to link the two pages together for the magazine spread and also the flyer I did in class.

Photoshop is a raster based program which means that it goes of the pixels of each design you make. When blowing up an image, enlarging an image, for example you double the size you have to divide the DPI in half to get the image to turn out the way you want it to. Photoshop was the main program I used this year. A few things I have learned is how to create layers to keep my work organized, manipulate text, the importance of typography, different effects with photos and text, and how to properly mask a photo. I created portfolio layouts for river of time, renaissance fest, and senior photoshoot. I also made buttons and my graduation invitations in photoshop. An example, is my senior portfolio layout I made. I used one of my photos as a background, where she is standing off to the side against a plain wood wall, I put the other few photos on the plain wall but still used the wall to lead you to the main subject. I also did this with Renaissance Fest layout with using a background picture that wasn’t too busy and still leads your eye to the other photos.

Illustrator is a vector based program, that means that the program and everything you do in it has some kind of mathematical equation behind it. Also when you blow up an image the quality stays the same. In Illustrator this school year I have designed my own logos, my portfolio dividers, and also some client work. As always, with all of my work I start off thumbnail sketches. With the logos I created for myself and a business card I did for a client combined text with graphic elements to get a nicer clean design, instead of just having text. With my logo I added the shutter graphic and the small arrows next to the word ‘photography’ I believe that this made it more personal and more like me. Finally with the business card I did I made the bottom of the card look like water and also added a water drop on the top side. With my clients name I made it look as if it is floating on the water and also a few in the water. Even though I haven’t done a lot in Illustrator I still learned so much about the program.
